What most job sites run
Most sites run a 30-yard for framing scrap, drywall and packaging, with a 20 on tighter lots or smaller phases. Demolition and additions usually need the 30.
Heavy material is the exception. Concrete, block and dirt go in their own 10-yard, where the weight allowance fits the load. Throw them in the 30 and they eat up its weight limit before the box is half full.

Paying a crew to wait on a truck
The dumpster itself is a small line on a job budget. What costs money is the morning your framers can't clear the deck because the box is full and the swap is still two days out.
We plan swaps around the phases that make the most waste, and we can pull a full box on short notice when the schedule shifts. Just keep the approach clear, because the truck needs to get back to the box every time.
Keep hazardous stuff out
Paint, solvents, oil, batteries, tires and asbestos can't go in.
Don't fill above the walls
An overfilled box has to be leveled off before it can be hauled.

If the box sits on a public street, many cities want one.
